I’m Winnie Cheung 張詠衡 a Hong Kong-born, New York-based multidisciplinary storyteller at the intersection of commercial, non-fiction, experimental video, horror, and arthouse cinema. My work delves into the complexities of a third-culture, feminine body with a focus on colonial nostalgia, pop and subcultural artifacts, and relics of the folkloric occult within the Chinese diaspora.

In 2019, my animated short Albatross Soup premiered at Sundance Hong Kong and went on to tour festivals internationally, winning the Vimeo Animation of the Year and Short of the Week ‘Short of the Year’ award. My debut feature Residency which I co-wrote, directed, shot, and co-edited, premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam in 2023 and is currently traveling to screenings and exhibitions internationally. Right now, I’m working on my latest short Last Call which was a recipient of the NFMLA NewNarratives Grant in 2023.

I have over a decade of experience in commercial creative direction in broadcast, branded short and long form films & social media, distinguished by industry awards (Cannes Lions, Ciclope) and editorial sites (NYTimes Op Docs, Nowness, i-D Magazine). Recent clients include Google, Nike, Samsung, Victoria’s Secret, Fitbit, Starbucks, H&M, Adidas, Target, and Coca-Cola.
